Recovering from disasters

Many people have strong emotional or physical reactions following a disaster or emergency. Some people may have quite significant distress which will respond to support, reassurance and problem solving. For others, the symptoms may last longer and be more severe.

If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s mental health, please call the NSW Mental health Line for advice on 1800 011 511. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000 or go to the nearest hospital.

If you are experiencing domestic violence, please call 1800 Respect on 1800 737 732 for 24-hour confidential information, counselling and support services. Or in case of an emergency please dial 000.

Lifeline

Lifeline offers support for people who are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping or staying safe. Lifeline provides confidential one-to-one support with a trained Lifeline telephone crisis supporter.

Call 131 113 or text 0477 131 114. The helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Head to Health

Southern Cross University, P Block, Rifle Range Road, East Lismore

The Lismore Head to Health is an in-person support service for people aged 18 and over, with no referrals needed.

Safe Haven

The Safe Haven hub offers a free ‘drop-in’ space. It is a place of support and refuge, offering immediate, personalised and compassionate mental health support and counselling.

They are open every day from 12pm – 6pm.

Interrelate

143 Laurel Avenue, Lismore

Offers programs and services to empower families to build and navigate strong, resilient, and healthy relationships, from primary school through to adulthood. Their programs for children are designed to nurture and grow happy, healthy humans. Interrelate’s relationship services for adults provide individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds and at all life stages the skills to navigate through life’s many challenges.

Northern Rivers Community Healing Hub

The hub offers a community healing space to support flood recovery with trauma informed counsellors, a variety of body workers, group activities, child play therapist, free tea, coffee, food and a chat.

Rekindling the Spirit

Rekindling the Spirit supports First Nation families with a wide variety of specialist, including health and wellbeing services to all age groups. Provides a safe space for woman and children, run by women. Has a drop-in support, intake information and referral, women’s health nurse clinic, generalist sexual assault and DV counselling.
