Climate change networking - Climate Conversations

Join the conversation on Friday, 22 March for our first event in a new climate change series. The series is being held for community to come together and discuss topics of interest and influence in relation to climate change.

The first event, being held from 8am – 10am at Timbre Café in Lismore, will be facilitated by Jean Renouf from Plan C. Jean will guide us through what the series can hold for us and how we can each contribute in sharing our concerns, ideas and suggestions.

Join the conversation on Wednesday 24 April as we discuss all things Energy and Energy Efficiency. The conversation will be facilitated by Carmen Stewart. To help us learn together, we will be joined by the Northern Rivers Joint Organisation’s NetZero Officer, Phil Ridler and a local Home Energy Advisor, Seb Crangle.

The conversation will take place across the way from the Children's Library so please head in early to grab some books and comforts for your child and bring them into the conversation. Free beverages will be available, including babycinos for the little ones.

Sustainable House Day

On 21 April, 2024 over 100 homes will be opening their doors across the country, sharing their experience of building and living in sustainable homes. With great local commitment towards sustainability, Sustainable House Day usually includes open homes in the Northern Rivers, or at the very least, you can join in a range of related webinars online. Bookings to view this year’s sustainable homes will open mid-march on the Sustainable House Day website.

Urban Wildlife Ways: Birds, Bees, Trees and Weeds

  • Saturday, 27 April
  • South Lismore Duck Pond

In collaboration with Duck Pond and South Lismore Landcare, Lismore Council is organising a special showcasing event aimed at raising public awareness about urban biodiversity and wildlife. This event will feature informative presentations and a hands-on public planting hour.

Free for all, acknowledgment of Country commences at 9am followed by morning presentations.

Reducing your energy consumption

Small changes can make a big difference, especially when it comes to reducing your energy use and saving you money. The NSW office of Climate and Energy Action have put together a series of webpages to help you find and understand energy efficiency actions that suit you and your household.

Know your flood warnings

Understanding flood-related terms is important. To help you, Lismore City Council prepared a special Flood Edition of Local Matters. The edition provides lots of information on flood terms, the operation of Council’s network of levees, pumps and gates, and a guide to understanding the various flood warnings. inGrained Foundation Community organisation grant

If your organisation’s work involves improving social and/or environmental wellbeing, you may be interested in inGrained Foundation’s Northern Rivers Grant Program – opening 20 March. The program offers grants between $10,000 - $30,000 for projects addressing one or more of the following impact areas:

  • Community capacity building;
  • Social cohesion;
  • Ecological resilience and climate action; and
  • Systems change and social innovation.
