Stony Chute Road
The 2022 natural disaster significantly damaged Stony Chute Road at numerous locations. Emergency works were undertaken and maintenance has been ongoing. Council secured restoration funding through Transport for New South Wales and planned for construction in 2026. Sustained heavy rainfall following Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March 2025, dramatically worsened a landslip near the junction of Whitney Road and Zouch Road. This landslip necessitated the road closure currently in place.
Given the road closure’s impact to the community, Council has expedited this project and works have now commenced. The design and planning for the site have been revised to address the increased scale and complexity of the landslip and resourcing has been prioritised to complete the works as efficiently as possible.

Other Damages on Stony Chute Road
Council is reviewing the program of works to restore other damage sites on Stony Chute Road. Wherever possible, these will be scheduled to compliment the works now underway. Considerations include ongoing community impact, the finite nature of Council’s resources, budget constraints and logistical efficiencies. Further updates will be provided on the scheduling of these other works in due course.
