Urban Safety Upgrade

Road safety bollards and tactile ground surface indicators (tactiles) that alert pedestrians with visual impairments to potential hazards were among numerous damages sustained by Lismore’s CBD in the 2022 floods.

These damaged assets will soon be replaced with new look bollards and tactiles, in line with Council’s updated urban style guide.

Once completed, these upgrades along Woodlark and Molesworth Streets will bring benefits to both pedestrians and road users, enhancing safety and boosting the visual appeal with a more consistent look and feel.

At the same time, a new bus shelter near the corner of Dawson and Woodlark Streets will be constructed, after the original shelter at the site was irreparably damaged by the floods and subsequently removed.

These works will take place between May and July 2025, subject to weather conditions. Specific dates, times and locations will be communicated directly to businesses and organisations in proximity to the works.

Examples of these bollards and tactiles are already installed on Keen Street.

Scope

  • During construction, several car parking spaces may be temporarily occupied for equipment and material storage.
  • Both Molesworth and Woodlark Streets will remain open throughout the works, with traffic control measures such as stop/slow operations implemented as necessary.
  • Business owners, workers and visitors to the CBD should anticipate some disruptions, including increased noise, dust and vibrations. Crews will do their best to minimise disruption to the community.
  • Please adhere to all road signs and traffic controller directions, and ensure extra care is taken around workers on foot.
