The CBD Water Main Replacement Program 2023/24 has commenced, with works starting at the Dawson Street location, Conway Street to McLennan Lane. The aged water mains are being replaced to ensure businesses and residents continue to have a reliable water supply.

To minimise impact on residents and business and to ensure continued access to footpaths and roads, works are being carried out via horizontal directional drilling with no open trenches (under the surface of the road or footpath through small entry and exit points). Some saw cutting of the footpath/road will be required, followed by the vacuum excavation of the subsurface material to locate all existing services before main works commence.

Water supply will be maintained throughout the works. Notification will be given to residents and businesses ahead of any perceived disruptions. The Dawson Street location, comprising of two parts totalling 1km of pipeline, is expected to take nine weeks (subject to weather). Impacted businesses and residents in the remaining three locations will receive notification two weeks ahead of works commencing.
