Reports of the General Manager

At the Ordinary June Council meeting on 10 June, Councillors resolved to:

  • Adopt the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025–2029.
  • Endorsed the acquisition of part of 136 Gundurimba Road, Monaltrie, with Council meeting the owner’s costs and the General Manager delegated to finalise negotiations and documentation.
  • Received and noted the May 2025 Investments Report.
  • Approved a new loan with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia to refinance an existing loan, with the General Manager delegated to negotiate either a two-year fixed or variable term with offset/redraw facilities.
  • Appointed Tracey Whitby (Clunes) and Des Harris (Bexhill) to the Lismore Villages Advisory Group, and Jenny Smith and Ros Sten to the Aboriginal Advisory Group. Confirmed meeting dates for all advisory groups and provided for ongoing scheduling and admin support.
  • Set the Mayor and councillor fees for 2025–2026 at the same level as last year: $66,800 for the Mayor and $27,050 for councillors.

Notice of Motion

At the Ordinary June Council meeting on 10 June, Councillors resolved to:

  • Received the Mayoral Attendance Report for May 2025.
  • Amend the Code of Meeting Practice: Unfinished meetings can be deferred or adjourned to the following Thursday night, with proposed changes to go on public exhibition for 28 days.
  • Agreed to liaise with the NSW Reconstruction Authority to seek subdivision approval on Resilient Land sites to relocate bought-back houses, and to hold a workshop with the Authority.
  • Will consider public private partnership opportunities as part of Council’s Property Strategy to add value or improve Council assets and infrastructure.
  • Pothole repairs: The Roads Strategic Asset Engineer is assessing new pothole repair machinery. Further discussion will take place at the multi-site Roads Workshop scheduled for 1 July 2025.
  • 45 McKenzie Street, Lismore: Council resolved to call up the Development Application for proposed temporary accommodation and support services for a full Council decision.
  • Northern Rivers Recovery and Resilience Program: Councillors will receive a full update and project briefing on 15 July 2025.

Urgency Motion

Council will write to the relevant State Ministers and local MPs requesting a review of the decision to close Bell’s Bay Campground at Toonumbar Dam, the development of a plan to keep the campground open, and funding for the plan.

Confidential Session

Councillors resolved to exclude the press and public to consider two confidential matters. After the session, Councillors returned to announce they resolved to:

  • Accepted the Volvo Group Australia tender for new waste collection vehicles (total purchase price $5.5 million, including GST), and approved disposal of old fleet vehicles through Pickles Auctioneers.
  • Awarded the Landslip Restoration Package contract to the preferred proponent, noted the completion of the evaluation process, and delegated authority to the General Manager to approve necessary contract variations.
