I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter – did you spot the bilbies hiding around town? Thanks to the over 20 local businesses for providing hidey-holes amongst their wares for our little furry friends.

It’s certainly been a productive first quarter of 2024, and I am excited to announce that local tourism has been given a major boost by Council.

Recognising the importance of tourism to the local economy, and following a thorough community consultation phase, Lismore City Council recently voted to adopt the Lismore, Nimbin and Villages Destination Management Plan (DMP) 2024-2028,

The plan is a comprehensive roadmap to shape the future of tourism for the region, guiding our sustainable growth of the visitor economy, while developing a profile for the destination that sets it apart and showcases our strengths.

Mayor Steve Krieg emphasised its pivotal role in steering Lismore, Nimbin, and adjacent villages towards becoming the quintessential alternative and regenerative tourism destination along the NSW North Coast.

With an eye on the future, Council’s Destination Coordinator Karen Hirst highlighted the importance of collaboration in delivering the plan.

“We are all now the custodians of this important planning tool, and its successful implementation will be a team effort. We look forward to working alongside local tourism operators to build upon what our region is already renowned for and … developing tourism offerings that [deliver] visitor experiences like nowhere else,” she said.

Thank you to our tourism industry and community who contributed to this strategic document during consultation.
