How to register your pet

A friendly French bulldog being held by its owner.

In New South Wales, pet registration is for life. Microchip your cat or dog by 12 weeks of age or before sale or transfer, and then register the animal.

You can register in person at a Council Customer Service Centre or a Service NSW office by bringing proof of ownership, microchip number, and a de-sexing certificate from a veterinarian.

Dogs and cats must wear collars with name tags displaying their names and the owner's name, address, or phone number while off the owner's property. Cats must also have a microchip number on their name tag.
