We are pleased to be launching Monica Buscarino's first self-published book The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, to accompany her solo exhibition in Gallery 2. Monica will be in conversation with Curator Ineke Dane, and you will have the opportunity to peruse the publication in our Gallery shop.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter was created on Country. Every image is a moment of witness — shaped by the land, its silence and the stories it holds. Captured across vast and sacred places, Tjoritja // West MacDonnell National Park, Kanku Conservation Park, Mungo National Park, Yeperenye, Umoona // Kupa Piti, Lake Hart, Mparntwe, Namatjira, Australia, and shot entirely on medium and large format vintage film cameras, accompanied by typewritten words, this book explores the concept of time — its passage, its stillness and the imprints it leaves behind.

Join us in celebrating this milestone, and grab yourself a copy of this sublime and captivating publication.

About the exhibition

The heart is a lonely hunter – somewhere between time is a visual journey into desert landscapes with Monica Buscarino. A love letter to vastness, this body of work presents a meditation on the enigma of the unmeasurable. Elastic and metric at once, time is a constant, tangible companion to Buscarino and her gentle interrogation of the human condition. Shot on medium and large format, the work is printed on paper and fabrics to evoke the elements of air and movement. Accompanying the images are typewritten reflections that bridge what is seen and what is felt.
