A guide to our committees, panels and advisory groups

Council has many different committees, panels and advisory groups that provide input into Council decisions. Some are required by legislation and others act in an advisory capacity.

Community Panels are established in all our rural areas to implement strategic plans for their communities and host events, gatherings, working bees etc. People are able to join our Community Panels at any time.

We also have 'portfolios' where we group Council activities and appoint Councillors as spokespeople for those portfolios. This allows individual Councillors to get a deeper understanding of a certain portfolio area and act as a Council spokesperson for media or resident enquiries. Each portfolio has an appointed Portfoilo Councillor as well as an Associate Portfoilo Councillor in the event that the Portfoilo Councillor is unavailable.

community panels

Community Panels have been established to oversee implementation of Community Plans developed by the community, for the community. Council acts in a facilitator role, helping these Community Panels to achieve projects and goals that the respective communities have set themselves. Our Community Panels cover the entire Lismore Local Government Area.

If you have ideas for your local area and would like to get involved in community-driven initiatives, join a Community Panel. For more information, view our Community Panels page or phone our Partnering & Community Engagement Team on 1300 87 83 87.
