New project - Walk of Honour

The Walk of Honour will recognise and celebrate individuals who have made a lasting impact on the Lismore community through professional excellence, community contribution, cultural and creative achievement, sport and recreation, innovation, and leadership.

The proposed Walk of Honour will be incorporated into the future Lismore Boulevard – Shared User Path project, building on the existing footpath alignment to create a dedicated space that celebrates the people who have helped shape Lismore’s history and identity.

Council has established the Walk of Honour Committee to guide the development of the proposed Walk of Honour. The Committee will oversee the assessment of future community nominations and make recommendations to Council on the individuals to be recognised in the Walk of Honour.

Walk of Honour Nomination Selection Criteria

To be considered for inclusion in the Walk of Honour, nominees should meet the following criteria:

  • demonstrate a strong and identifiable connection to the local government area through birth, residence, education, career, community service, or significant contribution
  • have made an outstanding contribution or achieved excellence in one or more of the following areas: Professional Excellence, Community Contribution, Cultural and Creative Achievement, Sport and Recreation, Innovation, Leadership
  • be supported by sufficient evidence and documentation demonstrating their achievements and community impact
  • be endorsed by a minimum of three independent referees

Ineligible Nominations

The following nominations will not be considered:

  • sitting elected officials
  • self-nominations
  • organisations, businesses, or groups

Note: Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Nominations will be assessed against the Walk of Honour assessment criteria and scoring framework before seeking a resolution of Council
