Council's role in emergencies

Emergency events are coordinated and controlled by either a combat agency or an Emergency Operations Controller in accordance with the NSW State Emergency Management Plan. The designated combat agency will vary depending on the type of emergency.

Type of emergency Combat agency
Life-threatening emergency
  • Triple Zero (000) Police, Fire and Ambulance
Fire
Flood, storm, tsunami  NSW State Emergency Service

While Lismore City Council is not a combat agency, as a member of the Northern Rivers Local Emergency Management Committee, Council plays an essential supporting role before, during and after emergencies. Council works to:

  • Advise of any interruptions to the services we provide, including the status of roads and bridges, water and waste services and more;
  • Restore Council-owned or managed assets and services promptly to ensure the safety of our community; and
  • Support emergency services and/or Combat Agencies to keep our community up to date by sharing key messaging before, during and after emergencies.

During an event, please contact Council on (02) 6625 0500 to report:

  • Damage to roads, bridges or public infrastructure;
  • Fallen trees on local roads;
  • Blocked drains or debris on roads; and
  • Damage to Council buildings or facilities.
