Landfill Restoration

The 2022 floods significantly impacted the integrity and function of Lismore Recycling and Recovery Centre's landfill.

Since then the landfill has remained inactive, with residual waste and asbestos material being transported to South-east Queensland for disposal.

This has incurred additional waste management costs resulting in a special waste levy passed onto residents and businesses.

Through its Flood Restoration Portfolio, Council is restoring landfill operational capacity through the reinstatement of Cell 2B, including its leachate pumping and monitoring system, in line with environmental, geotechnical, and safety guidelines.
