Expression of Interest – Reuse of Terania Street Bridge Timbers

banner

Lismore City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the reuse of heritage timber and salvaged tree trunks stored at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre. This initiative promotes sustainability, preserves local heritage, and encourages community collaboration by inviting local processors to repurpose these valuable materials. Submissions close at 5pm on Friday, 17 October 2025.

Terania Street Bridge Timber

Built in 1894 as part of the Murwillumbah railway line, the Terania Street rail-over-road bridge in North Lismore was recognised as a significant heritage structure in 1999 for its rare design in a flood-prone area. After repeated vehicle collisions and structural concerns led to frequent closures, Transport for NSW received approval from the Heritage Council of NSW to demolish the bridge in October 2024. While much of the timber was unsuitable for reuse, Lismore City Council recovered a small amount of old-growth hardwood along with metal joints, bars, beams and trusses, now available for repurposing.

Tree trunks

In addition, several salvaged hardwood tree trunks are available for inspection. Council invites local processors to assess these materials for potential reuse.
