The Newcastle Jets will face Brisbane Roar in a preseason exhibition match in a show of support for flood-affected Lismore this August as a part of the 2025 Jets:TOUR, powered by the Greater Bank.

The Jets A-League Men’s side will visit Lismore, Port Macquarie and Taree as part of the tour, where they will host Jets:PLAY clinics, school visits, local football club engagement, an open training session and the exhibition match.

The headline of the tour will see the Jets and the Roar’s A-League Men’s sides go head-to-head in a preseason friendly match at Oakes Oval on Saturday, 9 August to bring the community together as it continues to recover.

It will be one of the first times that the region will see the new-look Newcastle side, with freshly appointed head coach Mark Milligan at the helm alongside star signings including Japanese international Kota Mizunuma and Scottish Premiership defender Joe Shaughnessy.

It has been over a decade since Lismore hosted an A-League preseason match, after Brisbane faced Melbourne Heart in 2013.

The tour announcement comes as Greater Bank renews its commitment as the Newcastle Jets major community partner for an 11th season.

Lismore City Council Mayor Steve Krieg said he was delighted to welcome the Newcastle Jets to Lismore.

“Lismore is a proud sporting community and hosting this A-League preseason match is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our world-class facilities and the incredible passion of our local football fans,” he said.

“We’re grateful to the Newcastle Jets for including Lismore in their 2025 tour. It’s events like this that put our city on the map and bring our community together to enjoy top-class football.”

“Bringing two A-League teams to Lismore is an incredible opportunity for our community to show their support for the game and for our region. I can’t wait to see our stands packed with fans cheering on some of the best players in the country.”

Newcastle Jets General Manager of Customer and Community Matt Starr said the tour is a valuable opportunity to engage with and support regional communities.

“We have been very clear in our desire to connect and engage with the broader Jets community and we’re really looking forward to taking our club and programs to regional centres along the north coast as we expand our reach and support across the state,” he said.

“Lismore, Taree and Port Macquarie have each been significantly affected by floods this year and we hope that this tour can help to give back to our fans and bring the communities together as they rebuild.

“We are thrilled to have Greater Bank on board as our major community partner for another season. They have been a fantastic champion of the club and we would not be able to deliver these tours or clinics without their support.”

Greater Bank Regional Manager Scott McCluskey said the tour aims to inspire young football fans and bring people together through sport.

“Greater Bank is delighted to be the Newcastle Jets’ major community partner for an 11th season and help amplify the club’s community focus through a range of fan-based programs, clinics and school initiatives across NSW,” Mr McCluskey said.

“As a regional bank, this year’s Jets:TOUR will be extra special as it connects with the towns of Lismore, Port Macquarie and Taree, who have all been through so much this year with the floods.

“We’re very proud to stand with the Jets to create this memorable experience.”
