Build Your Future housing grants program closes

Friday, 28 April 2017

The Build Your Future housing grants opportunity has now closed, with Lismore City Council receiving a total of 38 applications for the $20,000 grants.

The Build Your Future housing grants were heavily promoted earlier this year to increase community awareness of the 200 grants that were available, and ensure interested people put in applications to register their interest.

Lismore City Council Manager of Development & Compliance Peter Jeuken said unfortunately take up of the offer was not overwhelming as a result of delays delivering lots on the North Lismore Plateau due to Court appeals and the delayed provision of new lots in recently approved subdivisions.

“Council will be working to ensure that all of the grant applications received before the application deadline are honoured, so that people can take advantage of the $20,000 grants and the increasing number of new residential lots that are expected to hit the property market in Lismore over the next two to three years,” he said.

“Although we would have liked to extend the application closing date, we were unable to extend the program indefinitely and had to draw the line at the end of March.”

Lismore City Council has experienced a surge in development activity over the last 12 months, due to the release of new lots at Perradenya Estate, Waterford Park, Holland Street and Sanctuary Hills Estate on Invercauld Road.

There are more Council-approved residential subdivisions at Pineapple Road, Invercauld Road and Chilcotts Grass where developers are currently working towards the release of residential lots in the near future.
