Lismore to host 15th annual Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour

The Victoria Racing Club today announced that Lismore will play host to the 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup in 2017.

Lismore, selected for its passion for racing, was revealed as a Tour destination at a special event at Mount Macedon in Victoria.

Lismore will join 30 other cities and towns across Australia and New Zealand that will be part of the 15th annual Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour.

Lismore City Council Tourism and Events Manager Mitch Lowe said he was thrilled with the announcement.

“The Emirates Melbourne Cup is such an iconic piece of Australian history and culture, and having it visit Lismore will provide a wonderful opportunity for locals from all walks of life to unite and celebrate this special event,” he said.

“It’s even more special as it will be coming to Lismore on 3 September, which is Father’s Day."

Commencing on 1 July, the $200,000 trophy will visit 31 destinations across Australia and New Zealand before returning to Flemington for the race that stops a nation on the first Tuesday in November.
