All clear issued for Lismore; CBD to be closed to traffic at 6am Monday; kerbside pick-ups begin tomorrow

Sunday, 02 April 2017

The NSW has issued an all clear for the residents of Lismore CBD, and North and South Lismore. This means it is now safe to return.

The SES advises when re-entering your property or place of business, please be mindful of wildlife, vermin and snakes that may have taken refuge.

Make sure the electricity and gas is turned off before going inside. Use a torch to carry out inspections inside buildings. If power points, electrical equipment, appliances or electrical hot water systems have been exposed to floodwater or are water damaged in any way, they must be inspected by a qualified electrician before use.

Gas appliances and gas bottles that have been exposed to floodwater should be inspected for safety before use.

Lismore City Council has restored water to Nimbin rural customers. The boil water notice is still in effect for these residents, who should expect the water to be dirty for at least the next few days.

Council will begin kerbside rubbish collection early tomorrow morning in North and Lismore, as well as Lismore CBD. Pick-ups will start on the major roads in North and South Lismore first, and then crews will work through the smaller streets. The CBD block will be closed to traffic tonight and clean-up will begin tomorrow morning.

Another crew will work on restoring access through Blue Knob Road.
