Lismore offers excellent sporting facilities and accommodation for pre-games training
Lismore City Council and Ballina Shire Council extend a warm welcome to countries participating in the Gold Coast City 2018 Commonwealth Games. We invite you to the Northern Rivers for pre-Games training and acclimatisation camps so you are at your best come competition time and you get to explore one of Australia’s most unique and beautiful regions.
We are home to 21 National Parks (many of them World Heritage listed), some of Australia’s rarest plants and animals and we have spectacular beaches all along our east coast. We have some of Australia’s most unique villages and there are plenty of restaurants, boutique shops and quirky attractions to visit, like our ‘Big Prawn’ in Ballina or the spectacular Wollumbin (Mt Warning), an extinct volcano that is home to breathtaking rainforests.
Lismore and Ballina both offer a multitude of world-class sporting facilities and excellent accommodation. Our cities regularly hold national and international sporting events so we are well-equipped to cater for all your sporting and social needs.
Ballina and Lismore are only one hour to the Gold Coast, the location of the Commonwealth Games. We are a one-hour flight from Sydney and a two-hour drive south from Brisbane, so well within easy reach of just about everywhere.
