Natural Disaster Build Back

In early 2022, the Northern Rivers region experienced a severe natural disaster, causing extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure. The community is still recovering and some residents face difficult decisions about rebuilding.

This guideline, created with the cooperation and endorsement of all the councils in the Northern Rivers region, aims to assist with recovery by providing information about necessary approvals and resources for making informed decisions about properties.

Natural Disaster Temporary Accommodation

Lismore City Council recognises the ongoing recovery efforts for those affected by the 2022 natural disaster.

To assist, our Built Environment team has created a fact sheet regarding temporary accommodation options for displaced residents.

People who have lost their homes due to the natural disaster can temporarily place a moveable dwelling, such as a caravan, on land for up to two years without Council approval, in accordance with the Local Government (Manufactured Homes Estates, Caravan Parks, Camping Grounds and Moveable Dwellings) Regulation 2021.
