BIKE LOCKERS NOW AVAILABLE IN LISMORE CBD

Wednesday, February 16 2011

ATTENTION CYCLISTS

Bike Lockers have been installed in Lismore to give cyclists somewhere safe to store their bikes and helmets while visiting the central business district.

Located in the Clyde Campbell Carpark behind Woodlark Street, Lismore, the lockers are available to all members of the community.

Lismore City Council'S Road Safety Officer, Mrs Lisa Marshall said, "The bike lockers are now open to the public and are very simple to use. Cyclists will need to comply with some simple conditions of use and bring along their own padlock."

She said, "The lockers will make it easier for people to get some exercise and reduce their carbon footprint while knowing that their bike is safe and protected from weather.

"CCTV is located close by which gives another level of security for their belongings."

"I have spoken with one cyclist who is keen to use the lockers," Lisa said. "She intends to ride from South Lismore, lock up her bike, walk to the Lismore Transit Centre and then travel by bus to work.

"This is an ideal example of how active and public transport can work together," she said.

The Bike lockers were installed by Lismore City Council as part of funding provided by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government under the Australian Government Jobs Fund - National Bike Paths Projects.
