LISMORE CITY SEEKS NEW GM

Wednesday, February 16 2011

The search is about to begin for a new general manager for Lismore City Council.

Paul O'Sullivan will leave at the end of June after not seeking a renewal of his current employment contract. He retires after nine years of impressive service as the Council's General Manager.

Mayor Lismore Jenny Dowell has the job now to manage the search for a new General Manager.

She will be working with Stephen Blackadder of Blackadder Associates who has been engaged to facilitate the recruitment process.

Cr Dowell said all Councillors have been involved in workshops to determine the skillset and management qualities required for the Lismore City lead position which has subsequently led to the formation of the job description and remuneration package.

She said, "The total remuneration package (salary, vehicle and compulsory 9% superannuation) is similar to that of the current General Manager and is consistent with other comparable councils.

"In conjunction with Blackadder Associates, we have done the research looking at regional councils similar to Lismore City like Cessnock, Wingecarribee, Queanbeyan, Port Macquarie and Mid Western (Mudgee) and prepared the package based on good information and professional advice."

Blackadder Associates will conduct the recruitment drive and is seeking a national and international response to what should be a very attractive position to many candidates.

Advertising for the position is expected to commence by the end of February.

Mayor Dowell said, "Following an extensive advertising campaign, a Recruitment Panel (Crs Dowell, Clough, Battista, Graham and Yarnall) will interview shortlisted candidates and recommend the preferred applicants to make a presentation to Council."

The final decision will be made by the Council following those presentations.
