New figures show public place recycling bins have been embraced by the Lismore and Nimbin communities and Lismore City Council is now rolling out new bins that are modern and make distinguishing where to put waste even easier. Waste Operations Coordinator Kevin Trustum said each public place recycling bin is yielding between 600 and 1000kg of recycling each year with contamination being just 3 to 5% - incredibly low compared to other areas of Australia, with some contamination rates exceeding 60%.

Civil work has already started on a new motel for Lismore City after getting the go-ahead from Council late last week. The construction, valued at $5 million, will be built on Ballina Road between Dawson and Cathcart Streets by Strand Group Pty Ltd, a Gold Coast based company. The motel has 34 units ( two of which cater for people with disabilities), two suites, a 100 seat restaurant and function room as well as a pool, gym, steam room and guest laundry.

Garth Hayhurst, Manager Information Services said, "Council’s web site is having a makeover which will focus on presenting the information people need most, quickly with minimal clicks.“ “To complement this, we will be using photographs of our region to add colour and interest. The search is about to begin for a new general manager for Lismore City Council. Paul O'Sullivan will leave at the end of June after not seeking a renewal of his current employment contract. He retires after nine years of impressive service as the Council's General Manager. Mayor Lismore Jenny Dowell has the job now to manage the search for a new General Manager. Blackadder Associates will conduct the recruitment drive and is seeking a national and international response to what should be a very attractive position to many candidates. Advertising for the position is expected to commence by the end of February.

This "Road Infrastructure Assessment" addresses the resolution made by Council at the 11 May 2010 Ordinary Meeting in which Council required a report to be prepared to assess the roadworks associated with the proposed Cameron Road development, the priority and proposed delivery times and the likely traffic safety inpacts should the development proceed. The report examines in detail the current deficiencies of Cowlong Road, Cameron Road and Boatharbour Road including the corresponding intersections, as well as the change in risk should the development proceed.
